The Perfect Present!

Ask any experienced gardener and they will confirm that Camellias are some of the best plants to give as presents. They look luxurious and exotic and long established gardeners love them but they are easy to grow so new gardeners will find them very rewarding. They grow in pots or in the ground so they suit all sizes of gardens. They love some shade so they work in difficult spots. They keep their handsome foliage all year round, they live for years and years and years and they flower in the early spring - what more could you want?
Our Camellias are all lined up in the glasshouse ready to find their way to your garden. This picture shows you 15,000 Camellia "Dr King" all looking lovely and evenly grown and packed with flower buds.
You can see from the close up that the buds are just beginning to colour up and will stay like this until they open fully in January and February so you have plenty of time to enjoy them. We love Dr King because it is the first of our camellias to show their colour.
The flowers are most vulnerable to frost damage at this point so keep them out of early morning sun. If the colour isn't showing yet they won't get damaged so just check that the early sun isn't shining on them and they will be stunning.
If you buy a camellia as a present do keep it outside rather than indoors until it is planted. Keep it near the house wall and water while the weather is not frosty if the compost feels light. A nice piece of hessian wrapped round the pot with some lovely wire edged ribbon make your present look really special!
